This tour follows the basic route of the Windermere Way visiting all the fell tops and lake shore paths. There are one or two short diversions to facilitate lunch stops.

Welcome Meeting

Your holiday starts with a welcome meeting at a local pub. We’ll go over the route and equipment requirements and answer any questions.

Day One

10.00 am The first days walk starts from Bowness Pier. We’ll walk north along the lake shore, continue over Orrest Head, then drop down into Troutbeck for a lunch stop at the Mortal Man Hotel. After lunch we’ll continue over Wansfell and down into Ambleside. Transport back to your hotel in Windermere.

Day Two

Restarting in Ambleside we’ll walk over Loughrigg Fell, then drop down to Skelwith Bridge. Continue back towards the lake, then up over Claife Heights and down to the ferry to return to Bowness.

Day Three

Meet at the ferry. Walk along the lake shore to Newby Bridge. Return by minibus to Windermere. Anyone wishing to return via the lake steamer, an do so from Lakeside.

Day Four

Taxi to Newby Bridge. Walk back to Bowness via Gummers How. We’ll aim for a mid afternoon finish for this section so that people wishing to return home the same day may do so.

What’s not included?

Accommodation We have a list of accommodation, all of whom are either good friends or that we have personally inspected. You don’t have to book at any of these but they are a god starting point.

Transport Transport links are not included. If you choose to return on the steamer, please budget the extra for the fare, similarly with the ferry. If I get a taxi back at the end of the day, you are more than welcome to share it (and we usually get a big one).

Meals Where possible we will stop at a pub for lunch so you need to budget for this. On days where there is nowhere convenient you will need to bring a packed lunch.
